Alaska Chamber of Commerce

The Alaska Chamber of Commerce or the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in the year 1952. The principal objective of the Alaska Chamber of Commerce is to force positive modifications towards the commercial environment of Alaska.

Formerly, the Alaska Chamber of Commerce was known as the All Alaska Chamber of Commerce. The purpose behind the formation of the chamber was to promote trade and commerce in the state of Alaska. The name was changed to the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce after Alaska got the status of statehood. Previously, the focus of the Alaska Chamber of Commerce was on the growth of tourism industry, tax incentive laws, growth of the mineral and forest resources of Alaska, as well as enhancing agricultural production. Later on, it converted itself to a representative body of all the chambers of commerce in the state of Alaska. At present, the Alaska Chamber of Commerce has almost 500 business members and it is governed by an 81 member board of directors.

Through the adoption and implementation of its policies, the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce tries to develop its member associations by offering advocacy, leadership, support, and connectivity.

The committees working under the Alaska Chamber of Commerce are the following:

The committees are basically divisions of the Alaska Chamber of Commerce and they regularly hold meetings for carrying out the adoption and implementation of its policies, as well as to advise the board of directors.

The Alaska State Chamber of Commerce is regulated by a board of directors, which includes 36 members, who are elected from the regional zones (equivalent to the legislative election districts). Besides these members, the board of directors also include 1 military appointee, 8 chair appointees, a representative who represents the 30 local chambers of commerce in the state of Alaska, as well as a representative from every five external chambers of commerce.

The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce is Joe Marushack.
