Abbott is a broadly based global health care company discovering new medicines, new technologies, and new ways to manage health. The history of Abbott dates back to 1888, when 30 year old physician Dr. Wallace C. Abbott founded the Abbott Alkaloidal Company. With alkaloidal medicines Abbott founders were pioneers in the creation of pharmacy practice. In 1910, Abbott established its first European agency in London and branches in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, and India.

Abbott slowly grew while discovering new medicines and opening new offices until 1938. In the mid-twentieth century, Abbott progressed to a new level scientifically, commercially, and as an employer. In recent years Abbott has undergone a transformation in recognition to the changing health care environment of the world and has extended into diagnostic systems, vascular businesses, new drugs, etc.
