Abbott founded the Abbott Alkaloidal Company. With alkaloidal medicines Abbott founders were pioneers in the creation of pharmacy practice. In 1910, Abbott established its first European agency in London and branches in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto and India.

Abbott slowly grew discovering new medicines and setting new agencies till 1938. In mid twentieth century Abbott progressed to a new level scientifically, commercially and as an employer. From the 60's Abbott expanded into specialization. In recent years Abbott has undergone transformation in recognition to the changing health care environment of the world and has extended into diagnostic systems, vascular businesses, new drugs etc.
