The history of ABN AMRO goes back to 1824, when Willem I, the Dutch King initiated the foundation of Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij (Netherlands Trading Society, NTS) in The Hague.
From1964, after the merger with Twentsche Bank, NTS changed its name to Algemene Bank Nederland (ABN Bank). ABN changed its name to ABN AMRO after the merger with AMRO Bank in Amsterdam in 1991.
