AMR Services was formed on December 12, 1983, as a subsidiary to provide aviation services to other airlines. In 1992, a new subsidiary, AMR Consulting Group was formed. This expanded into the AMR Training and Consulting Group in 1993. AMR Corporation formed the SABRE Technology Group in 1993. It included AMR Information Services (AMRIS), SABRE Travel Information Network (STIN), SABRE Computer Services (SCS), SABRE Development Services (SDS), and AMR Project Consulting and Risk Assessment Units. In 2000, AMR completed the spin-off of SABRE into its own company. Gerard J. Arpey was elected Chairman of AMR Corporation and American Airlines, Inc. in May 2004.
