AmerisourceBergen Corporation (ABC) was formed in August 2001 as a result of the merger between AmeriSource Health Corporation and Bergen Brunswig Corporation.
The formation of AmerisourceBergen indicated a new era in pharmaceutical services. AmeriSource Health Corporation dates back to 1977. Lucien Napoleon Brunswig founded Brunswig Drug Company in 1907. The ABC merger continued the tradition of acquisitions which marks the history of these two previously independent companies.
Today, AmerisourceBergen is the leading company in the field of pharmaceutical supply, with five business units and more than 13,000 associates in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Recent Acquisitions
ABC has made several acquisitions in recent times. Their Drug Company acquired two pharmaceutical distributors in Canada, and the Packaging Group purchased the leading contract packager in the United Kingdom. Also, the Specialty Group acquired Access M.D., an Atlanta-based provider of accredited physician education and analytical research for the oncology market. AmerisourceBergen announced acquisition of IgG of America, Inc on November1, 2006 and acquisition of Health Advocates, Inc. of Tampa, Florida on October 13, 2006.
