History

Barclays, based in U.K., is one of the largest financial services companies of the world. Barclays has over 300 years of history. A goldsmith-banking business was founded by John Freame and his partner Thomas Gould in Lombard Street, London in 1690.

The name Barclay became associated with the company in 1736, when James Barclay - who had married John Freame's daughter - became a partner.

Thus Barclay and Company was formed. From a small joint-stock bank Barclays has grown to be a huge financial services company.
Over the years the company has made considerable domestic and international growth.
