History

Precision Optical Industry, Co., Ltd., the predecessor of Canon, was founded in 1937 in Japan. In 1947, the Company name was changed to Canon Camera Co., Inc. In the 1950's, Canon entered the USA and Europe.The Company name was changed to Canon Inc. in 1969.
In 2006, Canon embarked on Phase III of the Excellent Global Corporation Plan amid the development of two major trends in the business world: economic globalization and the spread of broadband networks.

Mission

The mission of Canon is to realize sound growth by assisting the development of regional economies in step with the advance of globalization, and establishing a new world of digital imaging born from advanced connectivity between rich ranges of imaging devices.

Further, in keeping with their "kyosei" philosophy, Canon will continue to focus on environmental conservation, social contribution activities, corporate governance, and compliance.
