Caremark Rx

History

Caremark was formed as a division of Baxter Healthcare Corporation in 1983. In 1992, Caremark spun off from Baxter, the Caremark Formulary was developed and clinical intervention programs were introduced.
The company continued setting up new offices in different locations. In 1994, Caremark expanded its product lines and in 1997 merged their prescription benefit management business with their biotech business.

In 1998, the company described pharmaceutical services as its core operating unit and established a National Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee. Caremark Rx and AdvancePCS announced a strategic combination in 2003.
