History
China Mobile Communications Corporation was formed in 2000, when it was spun off from former monopoly China Telecom to become a state-owned enterprise. In 2001, the company contracted with Openwave and Siemens to enable wireless internet service in China.Also known as China Mobile or CMCC, it is the largest mobile phone operator in the People's Republic of China, ahead of China Unicom. It is the largest wireless carrier by subscribers worldwide, surpassing UK-based wireless giant Vodafone Group. CMCC is controlled by the Ministry of Information Industry of China.
