History
China Mobile Communications Corporation was formed in 2000, when it was spun-off from former monopoly China Telecom and became a state-owned enterprise. The company selected Openwave and Siemens to enable wireless internet services in China in 2001. Also known as China Mobile or CMCC, it is the largest mobile phone operator of People's Republic of China, ahead of China Unicom. In a worldwide basis, it is the largest wireless carrier by subscribers. In this respect, China Mobile Communications has surpassed UK-based wireless giant Vodafone Group.
