History Of Cigna Insurance Company

Cigna had its origin in the formation of Insurance Company of North America (INA) in 1792. Another concern known as the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CG) was formed in 1865. In 1981, CG and INA announced the intent to combine Connecticut General Corporation and INA Corporation.
Cigna was formed in 1982 with The Insurance Company of North America and Connecticut General Life Insurance Company becoming Cigna's chief operating companies.

The name "Cigna" was chosen as a combination of its predecessors' initials. The mission of Cigna insurance company is to help people lead healthier, more secure lives.
