Commerzbank

History

Commerzbank was founded in 1870 as Commerz- und Disconto-Bank in Hamburg. The bank merged in 1920 with the Mitteldeutsche Privat-Bank. In 1929, another merger resulted with the Mitteldeutsche Creditbank.
Further, the government ordered the merger of Commerzbank with the Barmer Bank-Verein Hinsberg, Fischer & Co. in 1932. At present, Commerzbank is Germany's second-largest bank and one of the leading banks in Europe.
