History
Hochtief was founded in 1874 as "Helfmann Brothers". In 1896, Hochtief was converted into an Aktiengesellschaft - a publicly quoted corporation under the name, "Aktiengesellschaft für Hoch- und Tiefbauten". It can be translated as "Construction and Civil Engineering Corporation". After its conversion into a joint-stock corporation, Hochtief initially remained a family company. The invention of reinforced concrete triggered the successful development of Hochtief. Hochtief made its international breakthrough after the Second World War. Over the years, the company gained successes in Germany and also expanded its business to other countries across the world. Today, Hochtief has grown to become a worldwide construction services corporation and the largest construction company in Germany.Mission
