History:
The credit for running the world's largest postal savings system goes to Japan Post. Japan's government owned and controlled Japan Postal Service was renamed Japan Post on April 2nd, 2003.
Activities:

As on March 31st, 2006, Japan Post has total ssets of 369,481,352 million yen and total liabilities and capital amount to 369,481,352 million yen. Japan Post reported net income of 1,933,117 million yen in 2006. The company delivers a total of about 73 million pieces of mail and parcels to around 31 million households and businesses every day. Japan Post held savings worth 225.74 trillion yen at the end of May, 2004. At the same time, the funds being set aside for future claims and dividends had reached about 120.11 trillion yen.
Assets & Infrastructure:
With 224 trillion yen of household assets in its yu-cho savings accounts and 126 trillion yen of household assets in its kampo life insurance services, its holdings account for 25 percent of household assets in Japan and it is often credited with being the world's largest holder of personal savings. The company also has to its credit about 140 trillion yen, or one fifth, of the Japanese national debt in the form of government bonds.
Organization:
Japan Post is headed by Company President Masaharu Ikuta. As of 2006, Japan Post had over 400,000 employees and was the nation's largest employer.
