History

Komatsu, or Komatsu Limited was established in January, 1917. It is a Japanese corporation of worldwide repute that is in the manufacturing and marketing of heavy duty equipment and machinery used in varied industrial, construction, and mining and hauling activities.

Activities

Komatsu is primarily engaged in the manufacture and marketing of equipment and machinery:

• Construction and Mining Equipment: a wide range of equipment ranging from very large machines capable of mining applications to small units for urban use. The range of products also includes a large number of attachments and system products.

Other products:

Forklift Trucks used for material handling

Large Press System used to make automobile roofs

Medium Sized and Small Presses used in sheet metal forming and casting

Sheet Metal Machinery, including shears for cutting sheet metals, press brakes for shaping, fine plasma cutting machines for curb-line cutting, and Gatling Press Center for Multifunctional Punching

Excimer Laser light sources, which are critical components of lithography tools

Temperature control Equipment, including thermoelectric modules and temperature control equipment for semiconductor manufacturing.

Assets and Infrastructure:

Most of Komatsu's revenues come from its overseas operations, and the company has manufacturing plants located all over the world.

Performance:

In fiscal 2006 Komatsu's turnover was 1,701,969 million yen ($14.54 billion) with profits of 114,290 million yen ($976,838).
