HISTORY
The Kroger Co. is one of the largest retail food companies in the United States, as seen by its yearly sales. Its headquarters are in Cincinnati, Ohio. Barney Kroger founded the company in 1883. Commercially, the company has been in operation since 1949.

Kroger plans to offer its customers a shopper's card. Kroger has a private selection program that enables the regular buyer of Kroger brands to earn benefits. Some of the brands are Canadian maple syrup, luscious preserves, gourmet macadamia nuts, and flavored extra-virgin oil. Additionally, Kroger provides the opportunity to save money for college education.

Kroger is a leader in the distribution and merchandising of food, retail drugs & pharmacy services, and health & personal care items.

Revenue:
Kroger ended with a sales figure of 66.1 billion during the fiscal year of 2006. On March 15, 2007, Kroger increased the dividend for the shareholders to 15.4%.
DISTINCTION
Kroger is the only retail food company in US which works under two dozen banners.

Kroger controls numerous supermarkets. These are Ralphs, King Soopers, City Market, Pillions, Smiths (Food and Drug stores), Fry's, Quality Food Centers (QFC), Bakers, OwensJayc Food Stores, Hilander, Gerbes, PayLess, Price Impact Warehouse Stores like Fred Meyer, Fry's Market Place, Smiths Market Place and Convenience Stores like Turkey Hill, Kwip Shop, and Loaf.
