History:
Lufthansa is the largest German airline and a founding member of Star Alliance, the largest airline alliance in the world. The airline was founded on January 6, 1926 in Berlin and has steadily become one of the largest in the world.

The business of the Lufthansa Group can be differentiated into different segments:
Passenger Business: Passenger services form the main line of business for the Group. Flights are operated between 185 cities in 97 countries. More than 51 million passengers traveled with Lufthansa in 2005.
Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul: Lufthansa Group, through Lufthansa Technik, caters to the fleet of over 370 airlines worldwide.
Leisure Travel: The Group has 38 tour operators worldwide, under Thomas Cook AG.


Logistics: Lufthansa Group is a global leader in international scheduled airfreight services. Lufthansa Cargo earned profits if 140 million euro in 2005.

Catering: LSG Sky Chefs, the catering division of the company, handles 34% market share of the airline catering business worldwide.
IT Services: The Company is a leading IT service provider for the aviation and airline industry globally.
Performance:
The Lufthansa Group is soaring higher in the financial world. The company earned revenue of 19,849 million euro in 2006. The EBITDA (Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) of the company in 2006 was 2,393 million million.
