In 1950, adhering to a law that forbade over concentration of economic power MHI was dismantled into West Japan Heavy Industries Ltd., Central Japan Heavy Industries Ltd. and East Japan Heavy Industries Ltd. It was not until 1964 that MHI was reconsolidated and grew to become the world’s leading heavy machineries producer. In 1970 MHI’s automobile division was separated to form Mitsubishi Motors Ltd. but MHI grew unperturbed.
MHI is a Fortune 500 company.
