Mitsubishi Motors traces its origins back to 1870 as part of Tsukumo Shokai, the predecessor of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It was in 1917 that Mitsubishi gave the first definite indication of going into full scale automobile production when it launched the ‘Mitsubishi Model-A’ project.In 1970, Mitsubishi Motors was separated from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the parent company whereby it became an independent company producing cars, buses and trucks. In 2003 the company evolved again to become a producer of specialized passenger cars and multi utility vehicles.
