History:
NEC Corporation is a global leader in information technology and networking related business solutions company. Known as the Nippon Electric Company Limited till 1983, the company traces its origin to 1898 when Kunihiko Iwadare and Takeshiro Maeda established the Nippon Electric Limited Partnership. The company rapidly grew in stature and started exporting telephone sets to China in 1904. The radio communication business was started in 1924. Diversification followed and the company ventured into photo telegraphic equipment, carrier transmission, microwave, submarines cable systems and supercomputers.

NEC is a highly placed IT Solutions provider, and a leading manufacturer of computers (including the Versa notebooks and the Lavieu series).


The Electron Devices division deals in electronics and several products like transistors, semiconductors and display modules are manufactured. The Network Solutions group of the company markets broadband and wireless networking equipment.
