Nestlé is also a market leader in baby – food production and after acquiring Ralston Purina in 2001, Nestlé also became one of the largest producers of pet food producer in the world.

The company traces its origin back to 1860, when Henri Nestlé, a pharmacist, developed a formula for baby food. Successful marketing ensured speedy growth. The company effected numerous acquisitions (notable among them were Maggi seasonings and soups, 1947, Chef America, Inc, 2002 etc.). The company owns 28 % stake in L'Oréal.
