Nordea Bank was incorporated in 1820. It has changed its name many times over its history of 186 years and it celebrated its 5th anniversary in the year 2006 as Nordea Bank. It is based in Sweden. Today, Nordea Bank is the largest Financial Services Group in the Nordic and Baltic Sea region. Nordea Bank originated from four Nordic Banks: Merita Bank from Finland, Nordbanken from Sweden, Unibank from Denmark, and Christiania Bank of KreditKasse from Norway respectively. Since December 2001, all the functions are being conducted under the brand name of Nordea. With the combination of two words “Nordic” and “Idea”, the name Nordea has been generated, which means Nordic ideas.

Nordea Bank is a Fortune 500 Company. It is present in 19 countries around the world, and it operates through representative offices, subsidiaries, and full service branches. Nordea has 1,100 branch offices and a customer base of around 10 million.
