Activities

As South Korea’s largest steelmaker POSCO produces a number of steel products with applications across different industries:

Hot rolled steel – Has applications in automobile manufacturing, construction, and electronic appliances

Cold rolled steel – Has applications in automobiles, containers, finished material for buildings and furniture
Steel plate – Has applications in ship-building, civil engineering and construction
Wire rod – Are used to make wire-rod products, screws and nails
Electrical steel – They are used as components of electrical and electronic appliances
Stainless steel – This is rust resistant steel

Performance

In fiscal 2005 POSCO’s revenues were 26,301,788 million Korean Won which was approximately 9.7 % higher than what it was in the fiscal before.

The value of POSCO’s assets during fiscal 2005 was 27,507,310 million Korean Won which was approximately 14 % higher than what it was in the fiscal before.

Technology

POSCO is developing a new technology that promises to be friendlier to the environment with substantial cost benefits. This technology operates under certain vital principles.

Integrated blast furnace operation
Continuous converter operation
Integrated operation Management
Production control technology for steel making
Precise thickness control technology

This new steel making technology is known as FINEX and at full capacity utilization it will bring down the cost of production by 10 – 15 %.
