PPR was established by Mr. F. Pinault in 1963 to deal in timber and building materials. In 1991 the company entered the retail business with the acquisition of Conforama. The Pinault-Pintemps Group was formed in 1992 with the takeover of Au Pintemps SA followed by the merger of La Redoute in 1994 when the group was renamed Pinault-Pintemps- Redoute. Thereafter PPR grew considerably and by the mid 1990s it had already begun to give shape to a future in high-end retail as its successful track record began to rub off on the new venture. In 1999 PPR acquired the renowned brand Gucci and gradually began consolidating its position in the growth and development of a multi-brand luxury goods retail business. PPR is a Fortune 500 company.
