Telecom Italia was incorporated in the year 1964. Then it was known as SIP. In 1994, the name of the company was changed to Telecom Italia. Previously, it was a partially state-owned Telecommunications Company. Telecom Italia has the biggest customer base in Italy both in mobile (Telecom Italia Mobile) network and fixed line network.
Except Italy, Telecom Italia operates in seven countries of the world which are France, Germany, Netherlands, Bolivia, Cuba, Brazil, and Argentina. In Argentina, they enjoy shareholdings in Telecom Argentina, which is a fixed line network, and Telecom Personal, which is a mobile network.

TIM Brazil, the largest Brazilian GSM Telecommunications Company is regulated by Telecom Italia. Three Italian TV Networks namely La7, MTV Italia, and FLUX are regulated by Telecom Italia Media.

The Telecom Italia Group is a Fortune 500 Company.

Performance
The Total Revenue for the fiscal year 2006 amounted to Euro 31,275 million and for the fiscal year 2005 it was Euro 29,919 million.

The Net Profit for the fiscal year 2006 amounted to Euro 3,003 million and for the fiscal year 2005 it was Euro 3,690 million.

The Total Assets held by the company for the fiscal year 2006 amounted to Euro 89,457 million compared to Euro 96,010 million for the fiscal year 2005.
