Valero Energy Corporation was incorporated in the year 1980. It was the corporate successor of LoVaca Gathering Company, which was a natural gas gathering subsidiary of the Coastal States Gas Corporation. LoVaca became defunct and then Valero took over its operations of Natural Gas. It was the biggest corporate spinoff in U.S. history at that time. Valero is the largest crude oil refining company of North America with 17 refineries present in the U.S., Canada, and the Carribean and their combined throughput capacity is approximately 3.3 million barrels per day. Valero is also one of the leading retail operators of the U.S.Valero Energy Corporation is a Fortune 500 Company.
Activities
The products and services of Valero Energy can be categorized into five parts:- Wholesale: Wholesale Capital Projects, East Coast Branded, East Coast Unbranded, Mid Continent Branded, Mid Continent Unbranded, West Coast, West Coast Unbranded, Unbranded Customer Support Services.
- Asphalt Marketing: Valero Energy is the second largest Asphalt producer in the U.S. and it has seven Asphalt producing refineries. The Asphalt Production capacity of Valero is 85,000 barrels per day (BPD).
- Retail: Valero is one of the leading retail operators of the U.S. and carries out its retail marketing operations through approximately 5,800 retail and branded wholesale locations in the U.S., Canada, and the Carribean. The brand names include Valero, Diamond Shamrock, Shamrock, Ultramar, and Beacon.
- Base Oils and Process Oils: Valero is one of the top oil refining and marketing companies of the U.S. It has 13 refineries altogether which produce premium clean burning fuels at a capacity of more than 2 million barrels per day. Valero is the fourth largest paraffinic base oil producer in the U.S.
Refining: The refineries of Valero are Ardmore, Aruba, Benicia, Corpus Christi (2 plants), Delaware City, Houston, Jean Gaulin, Krotz Springs, Lima, McKee, Memphis, Paulsboro, Port Arthur, St. Charles, Texas City, Three Rivers, and Wilmington.
