US Debt

US Debt refers to the different aspects related to the United States National Debt, United States debt relief, the history of United States National Debt, as well as the United States consumer debt statistics.

The United States of America is one of the most financially developed countries of the world. It provides a huge amount of debt to its own households, as well as a number of other countries of the world in the form of external debts. It also receives debts for serving different purposes.

The US National Debt is also known as the United States public debt. This is a debt, which is taken by the Federal Government of the United States from the creditors who are the owners of U.S. debt instruments, such as treasury securities or government bonds issued by the United States Department of Treasury with the help of the Bureau of Public Debt.

The history of US National Debt dates back to its independence. Over a long period of time, the country has been collecting public debts and it shows a rising trend. However, it tries to maintain a debt ceiling for the purpose of controlling the debts.

The United States offers different types of debt relief programs to a number of impoverished countries of the world according to the different rules and regulations delineated by the Multilateral Organizations like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), International Development Association (IDA), which is a lending division of the World Bank, and the African Development Bank. The relief programs include HIPC (Heavily Indebted Poor Countries) initiative and the MDRI (Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative) program.

As per the statistics provided by federalbudget.com on the 22nd of September 2007, the United States National Debt amounted to US$ 9 Trillion.
