A Bit of History About the BYR
The Soviet Ruble was circulated in Belarus during the post collapse period that stretched till 1992. The National Bank of Belarus released new series of notes in 1992, which replaced the old series. The first set of Rubles was allotted the ISO of BYB and the exchange rate was fixed at 10 Soviet Rubles per Belarusian Ruble. In the next two years time the ruble gained recognition as the official currency of Belarus. The first series of money came in denomination of 200 and 500 rubles. But the series following this saw the circulation of denominations 50kapeek to 5000000rubles during 2000. Coins were never minted in Belarus. Only bank notes were available and circulated by the bank. Another set of rubles was introduced during the period of 2000-2002, which replaced the previous set. The bank released denominations from 1 ruble to 50000 rubles during this period of time.
Under the Article 13 of 1999 Treaty it was concluded that a unified currency of Russia and Belarus would be released. However, the end of 2008 would tie the Belarusian ruble with US Dollar instead of Russian Ruble.
