Re export in Benin:
Owing to Benin's advantageous location, it acts as an intermediate country for re exportation trade for the countries of the hinterland, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, in particular. It acts as a corridor for trade to the hinterland countries.Tobacco, textiles, cigarettes, used vehicles, food products are some of the products, which are re exported to other countries.
Export of cotton accounts for 74.4 percent of the total export earnings. It supersedes all export assets and amounts to CFA767.6 billion. In the year 1980, revenues from export dropped drastically. The decline can be attributed to the decreasing producer prices.
As per reports made available by the International Monetary Fund, in the year 2000, goods worth USD$392 million were exported by Benin. The AGOA or the African Growth And Opportunity Act aims at improving and facilitating investment and trade between Sub African nations and United States of America. In this context, the AGOA visa for exporting textiles enables Benin to export garments to America free of duty.
