Imports in Lithuania are a part of the international business which the country performs with different countries across the globe. In fact, Lithuania became a part of the World Bank in 1992 to enhance its commercial activities, thereby making the market economy of the nation, sound and strong.
In reality, Lithuania is highly dependent on its foreign trade which results in the flow of foreign funds. Initially, Russia was the main commercial partner of Lithuania, accounting for 25.3% and 21.3% of all Lithuanian imports in 2001 and 2002 respectively.

However, Lithuanian imports have come across similar structural alterations as the country’s exports, with the inclusion of the European Union, which have enhanced the import shares to nearly half. In 2002, Russia and Germany made a total export of 17% to Lithuania, followed by 4.9% from Italy and 4.9% from Poland.
In fact, import of various kinds of minerals was the most important import commodity in Lithuania in 2002, making up 17.6% (1.5 billion EUR) of the total volume of Lithuanian imports. Equipment and machinery accounted for 17.3% (1.4 billion EUR) of the Lithuanian imports. Other items imported by Lithuania are mentioned below:
