Philippine Stock Exchange

Philippine Stock Exchange or PSE came into existence long back in 1927. Though Philippine has another stock exchange namely Philippine Dealing Exchange, PSE is the primary stock exchange of the country. Not only that, the Philippine Stock Exchange is also the oldest stock exchange of the whole South Asia.

In 1927, a stock exchange was established in Manila which was referred as Philippine Stock Exchange. Then in 1963, Makati Stock Exchange was established. Till the year 1992, the Manila Stock Exchange and the Makati Stock Exchange were working as separate Stock exchanges. In 1992, after a merger of the two they took form of the present day Philippine Stock Exchange. In 1998, the Philippine Stock Exchange acquired the status of Self Regulatory Organization. Then in 2001, it became a Non-Profit No-Stock Organization which was governed by the board of directors and members.

The Organizational Structure of Philippine Stock Exchange is comprised of the five following groups:
  • Listing and Disclosure Group
  • Compliance and Surveillance Group
  • Operations/Automated Trading Group
  • Finance and Investment Group
  • Business Development and Investment Group
The other three offices which report directly to the President of Philippine Stock Exchange are:
  • Office of the General Counsel
  • Membership Department
  • Human Resources Management Department
The Philippine Stock Exchange plays a vital role in the Country's economy. It brings together the companies which want to raise capital by issuing securities. The companies which are listed on the stock exchange can access funds more easily. This is because, when a company is already listed on the stock exchange it can raise capital by an additional public offering which does not involve much expense. In this way, the Philippine Stock Exchange helps the companies in Business Financing.

The main types of Securities that are traded in the Philippine Stock Exchange are the following:
  • Common Stocks
  • Preferred Stocks
  • Philippine Deposit Receipts or PDR
  • Small Denominated Treasury Bonds or SDT Bonds
  • Warrants
