Introduction
Tunisia information accounts for everthing about the socio-economic aspect of Tunisia including economy, industries, education, and employment opportunity. The economy of Tunisia is primarily dependent on mining, agriculture and tourism industry. In 1992, Tunisia moved into the private global capital market and procured $10-million line of credit for balance-of-payments support. Tunisia is in the process of economic liberalization and as a component of that cognitive process, in 1987, government of Tunisia launched privatization program to attract more private companies to operate in Tunisia.
Tunisian economy
Tunisian economy, specifically Tunisian trade, is closely related to European countries, although Tunisian currency, Tunisian Dinar (TND) is not traded outside Tunisia. In 1993, government of Tunisia took over a unified investment code with an objective to attract foreign capital. An appreciable number of export-oriented joint venture business houses started operating in Tunisia. Government of Tunisia encouraged privatization and simplified country's tax structure. As a result of Government's policy to promote market economy of Tunisia, GDP (Gross Domestic Products) real growth rate, which was 4.0% during 1993-97, reached to 5.0% in 1998 and in 2003, it touched 5.1%.

    June to September is very hot and December to February comparatively cooler.

    Leading trade partners are France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Libya

  • Agriculture:
    Major agricultural products are grain, olives, dairy products, tomatoes, sugar beets, citrus fruit, beef, dates, and almonds.

  • Industries:
    Major industries include petroleum, mining (specifically phosphate and iron ore), tourism, textiles, food and beverages.

  • Currency:
    Currency of Tunisia is Tunisian Dinar (TD).

  • Currency exchange rate:
    1 US Dollar is equal to 1.27996 Tunisian Dinar and 1 Tunisian Dinar (TND) is equal to 0.78127 US Dollar (USD) as on Thursday, September 13, 2007.
