Uganda Statistics

Uganda statistics provide a simplified description regarding socio economic status of Uganda basically in the form of numerical data. Uganda statistics uncover data regarding nutrition,demographics, health, economics, women, child protection in Uganda.
Demographics
A report by UNFPA(United Nations Population Fund) reveals that in 2003, total population of Uganda was 25.2 million and average annual population growth rate was 2.7%, population density in terms of people per Sq. Km. was 128.3. In the same year, rural population was 84.7% of the total population. The infant mortality rate per 1000 live births was 81. Total labor force was 12.2 million and among them female work force was 47.1% of the total labor force in Uganda.

A report by United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) reveals that in 1997, population living below the national poverty line was 44.0%.

Education
UNICEF(United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund) reports that in 2002, adult literacy rate (% age 15 and above) was 68.9%.
Nutrition
A report by WHO (World Health Organization) reveals that in 2001, 22.9% children in Uganda were underweight and children under height was 39.1%. In the year 2002, 19% of the total population of Uganda were undernourished. In 2002, total health expenditure was 7.2% of the overall GDP(Gross Domestic Product). In 2002, total number of physicians per 1000 people were nil.
Agriculture and food
Statistical data from FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) reveals that in 2003, total food imports in Uganda were 16.2% of total merchandise imports. Cereal yield in 2004, were 1641.3 kg per ha.
Environment
In 2002, total percentage of arable land in Uganda were 25.9% of total land area.
Local currency of Uganda
Currency of Uganda is Ugandan shilling (UGX), which is divided into 100 cents.

Annual GDP per capita growth in 2003 was 1.9%(agriculture 32.4%, industry 21.2%, manufacturing 9.3%, services 46.4%).
