- General administrative and monitoring functions in respect of state banking and financial institutions
- Formulation of national economic and financial policies and strategies
- Coordination with international agencies and mobilization of foreign resources ensuring their effective use
- Formulation of fiscal and macro fiscal policy management
- Liasing with donor agencies and international financial institutions
- Preparation of national development and public investment programs
- Enforcement of government financial regulations
- Preparation of the annual budget and management of financial resources
- Execution of the national budget and enforcement of budgetary controls
- Management of national tax policy and effective use of government revenue
- Management of Consolidated Fund
- Coordination with the Central Bank on the formulation of monetary policies and overall macro economic management
- Overall management of revenue agencies
- Coordination of public and private sector activities and facilitation of the private sector for economic development
