DuPage Credit Union (DCU) is a member-owned financial institution providing full-service banking options to people living in seven counties in northern Illinois.

History:
Twelve educators at Wheaton North High School in the Chicago suburbs founded what would become DCU in 1956. Guided by the credit union philosophy of “people helping people,” the demand for loans quickly made it one of the largest organizations in the state.

The lower costs and higher dividends associated with membership made DCU attractive to people from all walks of life. As a result, eligibility was extended to more and more groups over the years, meaning anyone living or working in DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, or Will Counties can now join up.

Organizational Structure:
A seven-member Board of Directors is elected by accountholders to guide the organization based on the credit union’s member-driven, not-for-profit philosophy. This group of volunteers works in conjunction with a three-person Supervisory Committee that’s appointed to keep a close eye on the financial health of the organization, as well as the executives that oversee day-to-day operations to ensure member needs are met with state-of-the-art – yet extremely personable – services. Adhering to this philosophy has led the rolls to include well over 30,000 members as of the end of 2010, leading to more than $264 million in assets being under the DCU umbrella.
