Horizon Federal Credit Union
Founded in 1947 to serve the employees of Kaiser Aluminum and their families, what is now HCU began small. Less than two decades later, it had more than $2 million in assets and began merging with other organizations that lived up to the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” instead of being a for-profit corporate bank.
Through the 1980s and into the early 2000s, a number of mergers and a shift in the organization’s charter brought it to its current size, serving anyone that lives or works in a Washington school district or eight Idaho counties.
Products and Services:
The following products and services are being offered by the credit union:
- Free and Interest-bearing Checking
- Savings Accounts and Money Markets
- Home, Auto, and Consumer Loans
- Online Banking
- Credit Cards
- Retirement Accounts
- Financial Counseling
Like all credit unions, HCU is overseen by an elected Board of Directors. Members vote on who will serve in this eight-person team that works with the Supervisory Committee and executive leadership to make decisions securing the fiscal health of HCU while at the same time meeting the changing needs of its membership base. This commitment to putting the accountholders’ goals on equal footing with that of the institution has led membership to grow past 30,000 members and holdings to exceed $411 million.
