Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union (HVFCU) is a member-owned banking organization providing financial services to individuals across southern New York.

History:
In October of 1963, some employees from IBM set out to provide their coworkers in the Poughkeepsie and Fishkill offices with an alternative to corporate banking when it came time to get loans or make deposits.

Beginning with just 14 accounts and $172 in assets, the organization has grown to include other company offices and individuals from the four surrounding companies. This expansion has led to renaming to the more accurate HVFCU, as the 18 current branches are spread out on either side of the Hudson River.

Organizational Structure:
The strategic planning for HVFCU is done by a nine-person, all-volunteer Board of Directors elected by the members to ensure the institution continues to meet the needs of each accountholder while maintaining overall fiscal health. As an added measure, a seven-person team is elected to form a Supervisory Committee to keep a more direct eye on the financial health of HVFCU and make recommendations for changes. Both of these groups work with a handful of executives that oversee day-to-day operations that ensure each of the 253,000-plus people who chose to bank with HVFCU are put before profits. This philosophy has led people to trust the organization with managing more than $3 billion in assets.
