Neighbors Federal Credit Union

Neighbors Federal Credit Union (NFCU) is a member-owned financial cooperative serving individuals living in nine parishes in southeastern Louisiana.

History:

Begun in 1954 to provide residents in the West Baton Rouge area with an alternative to corporate banks with more loyalty to shareholders than accountholders, NFCU has maintained people as its first priority across seven decades in business. From its humble beginnings, the organization slowly added more members and select employee groups.

Eventually, thanks to a charter with the federal government, the pool of potential accountholders extended into eleven branches spread across East Baton Rouge, Ascension, Livingston, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, East Feliciana, West Feliciana, and Saint Helena.

Organizational Structure:

A nine-member Board of Directors is elected on a rotating basis by the member-owners to determine the strategic moves NFCU will make in the coming year. Supported by the CEO and executive team, these volunteers ensure the financial health of the institution while making certain each of the 55,000-plus members have all the options necessary to achieve their financial goals. This has led managed assets to grow to more than $487 million.
