Redwood Credit Union
Historic Background of Redwood Credit Union:
What once began as a member-owned financial services company for the employees of Sonoma County has now grown into one of the biggest state-chartered credit unions in northern California’s Bay Area – it’s in the top 1% in the United States in terms of size, as well.
Consequently, it changed over from Sonoma County Employees Credit Union (SCECU) in 1982 to reflect a member base that stretches from San Francisco more than 100 miles north to tiny Ukiah and includes some 450 unique groups across 7 counties.
From the start, RCU has set out to be a leader in the financial sector by helping members fulfill their most audacious goals.
The organization sets out to do so by serving people’s best interests by earning trust through excellent service – from the executive director on down to the part-time tellers.
This commitment to helping people achieve their dreams is best demonstrated by the desire to create deep relationships between members and staff because the better they understand each other, the easier it is to cooperate along the way.
Products and Services:
The following products and services are being offered by the credit union:
- Free Checking
- Deposit Accounts
- Investments and Financial Planning
- Personal Lending
- Home Loans
- Business Services
- New and Used Vehicle Financing
This wide range of options has allowed the organization to secure more than 200,000 members via its 18 branches. In turn, RCU has almost $2 billion in total assets available – a number that continues to grow each year as the association continues to put its values into practice.
The President and CEO of RCU oversees some 380 employees across all the branch locations from the centrally-located main office in Santa Rosa, California. Of course, in order to be certified by the National Credit Union Association (NCUA), there is a volunteer board of 9 members elected by the entire roster of account holders to guide the organization into the future.
In addition, a 5-person Supervisory Committee is chosen to keep track of RCU’s financial health on an ongoing basis, a key function as the institution continues to expand. Lastly, a second 5-person committee oversees the RCU Services group, which manages the insurance and auto purchasing assistance offerings.
