Veridian Credit Union

Veridian Credit Union (VCU) is a member-owned financial cooperative operating as a not-for-profit banking organization in 26 branches across central Iowa.

Historic Background:

All the way back in 1934, a few employees of the John Deere factory in Waterloo, Iowa pooled their money to create another option for their coworkers when it came time to secure a loan or pay bills.

In the mid-1980s, the group decided to expand membership availability to people in the neighboring city of Cedar Falls, which led the organization to become known as John Deere Community Credit Union. As the institution continued to grow into one of the largest credit unions in the United States, the manufacturing company whose workers once founded the group asked it to change the name and VCU was born in 2006.

Organizational Structure:

VCU owes its continued growth to the leadership of its 15-person board of directors. Each member volunteers to attend meetings and make decisions to continue the tradition of helping members create solid financial futures based on trust, cooperation, and communication by working with a team of executives that oversee daily operations. This attention to the needs of VCU’s accountholders has allowed the organization’s total assets to surpass $1.7 billion at the end of 2010.
