Indian Share Market

The Indian share market has two national level exchanges- Bombay Stock Exchange Limited (BSE) and National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE). The NSE is the third largest stock exchange in the world in terms of volume while BSE is the oldest stock exchange in Asia.

It will not be an overstatement that Indian share market largely depends on the NSE and BSE indices.     The National Stock Exchange Limited or better known as NSE is the largest share market exchange in India and in July 2007 had a total market capitalization of 4274509 crore INR that makes it the second largest share market in South Asia. But Bombay Stock Exchange Limited or BSE located in the Dalal Street of Mumbai is more famous share market exchange in India. Established in 1875, BSE is the oldest stock exchange in Asia and has 4800 Indian companies listed with it. By July 2007, the market capitalization of BSE was US$1.005 trillion. The Singapore Exchange has recently acquired strategic investment in BSE.
