Aetna Dental Access
Aetna Dental Access is a discount or reduced-fee dental program designed for consumers who want to maintain their oral health and minimize dental care expenses. The Aetna Dental Access network provides participants with discounts ranging from 15 % to 50 % on dental procedures at over 66,000 dental practice locations across the US.
Participants just show their ID card for immediate savings when the services are rendered. Moreover, dentists participating in Aetna Dental Access have agreed to accept the Aetna Dental Access contracted rate as payment in full for services performed.
Vital Savings
Aetna's new dental insurance product, Vital Savings offers access to one of largest dental discount networks of the US to employees and retirees without dental insurance. This is a network of 48,000 dental office locations nationwide and is targeted at 40 % of the US population that is outside the ambit of dental insurance. According to Mark T Bertolini, senior vice president of Specialty Products, which includes Aetna Dental "In these uncertain economic times, when people face difficult choices about how to provide dental care for themselves and their families, we think Vital Savings is a great alternative.”
Mr. Bertolini further said "Vital Savings by Aetna opens a large network of dentists to many who need service. This product is good for consumers because it offers immediate savings, and it's good for dentists because it expands their potential client base without creating additional administrative issues".
Vital Savings is a flexible addition for employers, who have the option to contribute to an employee discount program. A participant in Vital Savings has to pay a monthly or annual fee and will be able to choose among participating dentists, whom they then pay directly for dental service at discounted rates.
The market projections for Vital Savings show that the product would appeal to:
- Employees who are offered medical insurance only by their employers
- Part-time employees whose benefit package does not include dental cover
- Customers who have opted out of dental insurance for personal or financial reasons.
- Retired individuals who do not have dental insurance
