Abstract: Hawaii Department of Labor offers Unemployment Insurance Benefits to the unemployed persons, who fulfill the eligibility criteria and file unemployment insurance claim by furnishing all required information.
Unemployed persons on fulfillment of certain eligibility criteria can receive Hawaii Unemployment Insurance Benefits. The eligible persons are required to file a proper unemployment insurance claim, in order to get the unemployment insurance benefits from Hawaii Department of Labor.
The Eligibility Requirements For Receiving Hawaii Unemployment Insurance Benefits
Unemployment Insurance Benefits are offered to those, who have the record of receiving wages in minimum two calendar quarters of the base period.
Those persons are entitled to Unemployment Insurance Benefits, who carry a record of receiving a level of total wages in the base period, which is 26 times of the weekly unemployment insurance benefit amount.
It should be mentioned here, that in Hawaii, standard base period is referred as the first four-calendar quarter of the last five complete calendar quarters. Here, by last five-calendar quarters we mean, the five calendar quarters, just preceding the effective date of the unemployment insurance claim.
If an unemployed person does not fulfill the eligibility requirements by the standard base period, then he can use an alternate base period. The alternate base period is considered as the last four complete calendar quarters.
Procedure of Filing an Unemployment Insurance Claim in Hawaii
Unemployed persons in Hawaii can file unemployment insurance claim by telephone. They are
required to use the telephone filing system of Hawaii, the Hawaii Tele-Claim.
At the time of filing the unemployment insurance claim, the applicants are required to submit the following things:
Social Security Number, in case of US Citizen
Alien Registration Number, in case of people, who are not citizens of US
Names, addresses and telephone numbers of the past employers, for whom the applicant has worked for last 18 months
Reason behind leaving the earlier jobs
DD-214 certificate, in case the applicant had worked for the Federal Government in the last 18 months
Maximum and Minimum Levels of Unemployment Insurance Benefit
Hawaii Law has set the maximum level of unemployment insurance benefits as $523 per week. The minimum level of unemployment insurance benefits has been determined as $5 per week. These rates have been made effective from 6 th January 2008.
