Leaders from some richest countries gather in Japan for G8 Summit





Leaders from some of the world’s richest countries have arrived in Japan to attend the Summit Meeting of the G8 and Outreach Countries. The Group of Eight (G8) summit is scheduled to take place at Toyako resort area in Hokkaido, Japan from 7th July to 9th July.

The meeting will continue for three days and will focus on following three broad areas:

  • Aid to Africa and other developmental issues on Africa
  • Increasing oil and food prices
  • Climate Change


Apart from this, the G8 heads will convene there for discussing a various issues such as political turmoil in Zimbabwe and threats to world peace.

The leaders of G8 nations will also be joined by leaders of other 15 countries including India, China, Brazil, Australia and some African State.

The US President, George Bush has arrived in Japan on Sunday and held talks with Japanese Prime Minister, Yasua Fukuda. Japan’s Prime Minister said that both the countries will work together in socio economic fields.

India’s Prime Dr. Minister Manmohan Singh leaves for Japan to attend the summit. In a statement Dr. Singh said that he will emphasize the impact of rising food prices on the world economy and the need for a joint action to be taken by both producing and consuming nations.

Dr. Singh is scheduled to have meeting with US President on Wednesday. The issues relating to nuclear deal is expected to be discussed in that meeting.
