The major
Stock Exchange in Australia is the
Australian Stock Exchange or ASX. Founded in 1871, ASX started as separate state-based exchanges. Now AXS’S own shares are traded on it and though the corporation’s charter limits highest individual assets to a little portion of the company. Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASTC) controlled ASX though ASX controls other enrolled companies which are enrolled on it. Australian Stock Exchange cannot control itself however it is a public company and trading operations conducted by electronic devices totally. According to their market capitalization BHP Billiton,the Commonwealth Bank of Australiathe National Australia Bank,the ANZ Banking Group have the major trades on the ASX.
In July 2006 ,the managing director of ASX Robert Elstone was selected.
History and Origin of the ASX
The exchange started as six separate exchanges founded in state capitals
Sydney(1871),Hobart(1882),Melbourne(1884),Brisbane(1884),Adelade(1887) and Perth(1889). An Exchange in
Launceston combined to the
Hobart Exchange.
In
1903 the first inter-state conference was organized.The Australian Associated Stock Exchange was formed in 1937 and till that time all six exchanges got together on an casual basis.In
1960’s the call system trading was changed to a post system. In
1976 Australian Option Market was formed. In
1980 Melbourne and Sydney Stock Exchanges indices were substituted as Australian Stock Exchange indices. In
1987 the
Separate exchanges combined to establish ASX and in
1990 the Warrants Market was formed. Interest Securities were joined in
1993 and lauching of the GST the Stamp Duty was eliminated in all states in
2000. In
2006 ASX declared an unification with the Sydney Futures Exchanges ,the major derivaties exchange in Australia.
