The Toronto stock index is a capitalization weighted index. The market activities of stocks listed on the TSX are measured with the help of this index. When this index was developed, then, it had a base level of 1000. The parent index of this index is the SPTSX. The Toronto Stock Exchange has another index which is the TS300 Index. But this index will no longer be used after some time.
S&P/TSX Capped Composite Index was introduced in 2000. This index includes all that are included in the S&P/TSX Composite Index and the constituents of this index are weighted at 10% capped. This index is the parent of the S&P/TSX Capped Equity index.
