Jakarta Stock Exchange

Bursa Efek Jakarta (BEJ) or Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) is a stock exchange which located in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. Established in 1992(as it exists in its present form), the exchange had an informal existence since the beginning of the 19 th century. JATS is the name of the computer system which is used in Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) for the trading of shares, rights, warrants, bonds, and exchangeable bonds.

History and Origin of the Jakarta Stock Exchange(JSX)

Initially launched in1912, under the authority of Dutch colonial government Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) was re-started in1977 subsequently a number of closings for the period of World War I and World War II. In 1977, when the exchange was re- started, it was controlled by the management of the newly formed Capital Market Executive Agency (Badan Pelaksana Pasar Modal, or Bapepam), which was responded to the Finance Ministry.Along with the growth of Indonesia's financial markets and private sector, the trading activity and market capitalization of JSX was developed, which highlighted by an important bull run in 1990.On July, 1992, under the controlling power of Jakarta Exchange Inc.,the exchange became privatized,and the result of this, the roles of Bapepam changed to become the Capital Market Supervisory Agency. On March 22, 1995, JSX opened the Jakarta Automated Trading System (JATS).

Market Indices

The JSX Composite and the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) are the two major stock market indices which utilized in measuring market activities and reporting about the value changes in representative stock groupings. Based on Sharia (Islamic law) the JII was formed in 2002 to be active as a standard in evaluating market activities.On 21 st September 2005, the FTSE/ASEAN Indices were introduced by the five ASEAN exchanges (Singapore Exchange, Bursa Malaysia, The Stock Exchange of Thailand, Jakarta Stock Exchange, The Philippine Stock Exchange) and global index supplier FTSE. The indices contain FTSE/ASEAN Benchmark Index and FTSE/ASEAN 40 tradable index.
