Jamaica Stock Exchange

In February 1969, the Jamaica Stock Exchange started trading and one of its functions were to elevate the expansion of a capital market which was effervescent and to make sure that there was organized trading of enrolled securities like-stocks, shares or bonds.On Monday, February 3, 1969, the Jamaica Stock Exchange was began its first official trading.
The Jamaica Stock Exchange is a private company with limited accountability.In the creation of this Stock Exchange, the Bank of Jamaica played a very important role and participated in all the pre – incorporation deliberations andconsultation.Earlier the Central Bank offered operations of human resources for the Jamaica Stock Exchange which was accommodated at borrowed building in the B.O.J. Though, the functions of the B.O.J. have slowly reduced and at present the Jamaica Stock Exchange lives in its own building at 40 Harbour Street, Kingston with its personal human resources.
The Jamaica Stock Exchange is controlled by a Council (Board of Directors) which includes the Governor of the Bank of Jamaica (or his representative); an envoy of the Ministry of Finance & Planning; up to ten seat–holders and any three persons other than seat holders.

History and Origin of the Jamaica Stock Exchange(JSE)

In 1961 the Kingston Stock Market was formed in the guidance of the Bank of Jamaica,to organize the dealings of traders, or brokers instead of trading shares of corporations and companies through banks, lawyers and other individuals. In February 1969, the Jamaica Stock Exchange(JSE) started trading and one of its functions were to elevate the expansion of a capital market which was effervescent and to make sure organized trading of enrolled securities like-stocks, shares or bonds.On Monday, February 3, 1969, the Jamaica Stock Exchange was began its first official trading. Form June 3, 1996, the JSE has been testing its planned Circuit Breaker Rule-the logic of the new system is to minimize or totally eradicate manipulation of stock prices. On Thursday, July 18, 1996, a US dollar share was enrolled on the Jamaica Stock Exchange.
In June 1998, a completely owned subsidiary of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, the Jamaica Central Securities Depository (JCSD) was formed.

Form January 2000, The Jamaica Stock Exchange introduced an automatic trading platform which is known as Sunrise.
