Debt consolidation companies provide assistance to those who are overwhelmed by debt. Companies follow a long term consolidation strategy to bring the debts down. Debt consolidation means that all debts are combined together, and through a planned process, they are paid off.

There are several debt consolidation methods. There are debt consolidation loans, several of which mortgage and remortgage. The company also arranges debt consolidation counseling for borrowers. In the consolidation process, once various debts are transformed into a single loan, the company involved in the process offers less expensive debt settlement options to the borrower.

Debt consolidation companies follow a strategy. Companies generally purchase the debts from original debtors at lower prices. The debtors, because they have failed to recover the money from the creditors in a timely manner, generally agree to such deals.

After the debt has been purchased, the company offers low debt consolidation rates called quotes to the creditor. The creditor also finds it convenient to pay the debts at a lower rate.

The misconception is that the debt consolidation process reduces the loan amount. In reality, loan interest rates are decreased, and through funds provided by the company or banks, the borrower clears the debts.

Debt consolidation loans comes in two types, secured debt consolidation and unsecured debt consolidation loans. The secured loan needs security for the loan amount, but the unsecured loan needs no security. Because of the amount of risk involved in the process, the unsecured version of the loan charges higher interest rate.

Debt consolidation companies are not hesitant to offer assistance to the borrowers with a bad credit history. Programs are meant to provide assistance so that clients can eliminate debts. Clients with a bad credit history need the assistance more than others, but the loan or finance rates will be higher.

Finding a reputable debt consolidation company is necessary. A client must always remain careful that the company selected has the intention to help the client and are not there just for the profit.
